Pacific Valve Shenda SD9 Phono Preamp

The current thinking in phono preamp design is to marry an ultra quiet solid state pre- amplifier and
marry it with a tube pre amplifier. In this way, the lowest level passages go through a stage one solid
state phase and then a stage 2 high level tube gain stage. Enter the Shenda Hybrid SD9 phono
preamp that uses an ultra quiet sophisticated solid state phono preamp with a 12AX7 high level gain
stage. The Shenda SD9 Hybrid uses two 12AX7s.
The next phase is to keep it quiet by removing and securing power so E&M waves to not interfere or
taint the signal. A grounded, shielded steel box covers the first solid state gain stage and isolates it
further by creating a steel wall inside the box that further shunts all incoming power for stage one.
Next, the layout of the preamp itself, its wide and deep box, physically locates power away from the
gain stages . The phono ground jack mounts to the box itself to create a low hum shield.
A series of dip switches located behind the silver plate on the back panel allows tailoring of input
impedance and capacitance. Once can achieve a relatively flat response from a cartridge ( as much
as the cartridge will allow) by adjusting this loading.

accepts MC and MM inputs and has high and low output levels.
