Pacific Valve Transcendere S5
Product Details
Amazing Transcendere S5 is a headphone amp, USB DAC, 6 Watt integrated amplifier with two
inputs and selector and a preamp.
The 6 Watt amplifier is driven by a pair of EL84s, one of the better low power tubes on the market. The
EL84’s mainstays are a neutral, yet warm midrange and a deep not over ripe low end. The amplifier
is perfect for driving high efficiency speakers with good bass response. To drive the El84s, a full
complement of tube rectification awaits them. A pair of 6Z4 / 6X4s (specify which tube you want ) and
an 0B2 tube perform the AC to DC conversion. Most audiophiles agree that tube rectification provides
a more “realistic” transient response and dynamics when compared to solid state, which, even in the
tube world seems a little hard.
The 5670 tubes, together with the rectifying tubes provide make up a great tube preamp for the audio
enthusiast. The preamp has enough gain to drive most amplifiers.
The head amp is driven by the EL84s like the Doge 6120. The head amp is powerful enough to drive
the most demanding high impedance headphones where the EL84 tubes paint a detailed midrange,
yet provide great bass response for headphones.
A Burr Brown PCM 2702 drives the USB DAC and is used for conversion. The PCM 2702 supports
Full-Speed at 12Mbps Data Transfer, is fully compliant with the USB 1.0 Specification and uses
Adaptive Mode for isochronous transfer.
